Almost nine doctors have individually approached the JJ hospital and the state medical education department in the past week accusing a senior gynecology professor Dr. Rajshree Katke of mental harassment. Subsequently, a postgraduate medical student has also complaint against Dr. Katke of mental and financial harassment.

Dr. Rajshree Katke heads the gynecology unit in JJ hospital. She was earlier the superintendent of Cama and Albless Hospital. An inquiry is initiated by the JJ hospital which is expected to be completed by next week.

A senior doctor from JJ hospital have been receiving continuous complaints from current and former medical students and doctors who had previously worked under Dr. Katke.

The doctors mentioned in their complaint that due to continued mental harassment, they had to quit their jobs. The resident doctors were asked to do Dr. Katke’s personal works, pay her utility bills, get gifts for her and her daughters and were verbally abused and humiliated by her. She would threaten the doctors to spoil their careers if they resisted. One of the doctors claimed that due to the persistent mental torture, she had gone into depression fearing about her career.

JJ hospital dean Dr. Ajay Chandanwale said that the inquiry is going on and the report is expected in a few days.
